The Role

We currently have a secondment opportunity available for an experienced Senior Government Lawyer within a high profile Commonwealth Department. Candidates will have the skills and experience to advise on the Department’s implementation of the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 (Cth).

The Senior Government Lawyer will also be required to provide general administrative law advice and assist in the conduct of proceedings in the Administrative Review Tribunal.

The Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work as a secondee within the Department’s in-house legal team.  High level stakeholder engagement skills are required as the successful candidate will be required to provide advice and assistance to a wide range of client areas.

The secondee will be required to advise on:

• implementing legislative reforms and regulatory compliance;
• privacy law compliance and governance processes;
• administrative law, including decision-making and litigation;
• development of legislation; and
• undertaking legal research.

The Requirements

A current practising certificate and extensive Commonwealth government experience providing legal advice is essential.

Applicants must be Australian citizens and have a current NV1 Security Clearance.
