Lawyer – Baseline Clearance
Initial 6 month contract with the possibility of an additional 6 months
The Role
Our client is seeking Lawyers for an initial period of 6 months to be seconded to a federal department.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent legal graduate or junior lawyer to gain additional experience within a Commonwealth setting while working in a high profile department.
This position will require the successful candidate to assess submissions and matters referred to the department for review.
The Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include assisting with:
- clarifying and identifying the issues raised in submissions, which includes interviewing the Complainant to determine their desired outcome, and any respondent(s) or witnesses as required to complete or assist in drafting of an Inquiry Report;
- drafting and issuing notices and procedural fairness correspondence;
- evaluating whether matters fall within the department’s jurisdiction;
- gathering all reasonably available records and assessing the adequacy of actions (if taken) in response to issues raised in submissions; and
- making a recommendation(s) to the delegate on what further action(s) should be taken to resolve, progress or close the matter.
The Requirements
The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, and sound research and legal drafting skills.
It is expected that the candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who can quickly adapt to a range of issues and be able to meet tight deadlines.
A current practicing certificate (or ability to obtain one) and Baseline security clearance is also essential.
